A rainy morning in the heart of downtown Boston. The rain had been at it all night and kept on into the day, so the city starts this walk already soaked — everything a shade darker than usual. The route begins just outside South Station and works through downtown to end near the Old State House, which has watched wetter mornings than this and kept its counsel. Recorded binaurally: rain close, traffic middle distance, the rest of Boston somewhere past that. A note for the curious — this walk was filmed while trying out a new polarized filter, which gave the picture a much higher contrast. Sometimes the experiment is the reason to go out. People keep these recordings on for sleep or for work; a heavy morning rain in a working city suits either. Boston does not stop for rain. It just lowers its voice.
