Early morning, early spring, the Esplanade along the Charles River in Boston. The route runs from where the path meets the Mass Ave Bridge down to the Boston Garden. The walk begins without rain; halfway through, it starts, and from then on the sound is rain against the umbrella, close and regular, recorded in binaural audio as it happened. Underneath that are the sounds of early springtime in the city. The picture runs a little dark — that morning's experiment was a polarizing lens, and it kept the light low — but the hour suits it. Forty minutes beside a river in fog, waiting for the rain and then walking in it. Good for sleep, good for study, or for that particular quiet of a city watched from its own riverbank before it has fully woken up.
