Not a walk this time, but a window. Late night in Midtown Manhattan, a hotel room above Sixth Avenue, the window open and the camera left to watch the street below. The city does the rest. The recording, binaural, holds the sound Manhattan makes late at night, when it has thinned out without ever quite stopping. One honest note, carried over from the original upload: there is a bit of white noise in this recording. It was owned up to at the time, with a promise to do better. Field recordings keep their flaws; that is part of what makes them records. An hour and a half of it — you can sleep to it, work to it, or match it from your own window with the lights off. A city heard from above is a different city — the same streets, at a kinder distance.
